Groundworks, with
his own machines
Digs, drainage, foundations and oversite — done by the same person who then lays the bricks on them, with his own plant and a waste carrier licence to take the spoil away.

His own plant
The machines he runs
Most bricklayers wait for a groundworker and most groundworkers hand over to a bricklayer. The join between the two is where the levels go wrong and the week gets lost. Here it is one person, on his own machines, and the footings are set out by the man who has to build off them.
- 360 excavatorTracked, with attachments — digging, lifting and breaking.
- TelehandlerMaterials to the lift, and anything that has to go up.
- DumperMuck away and material about the site, with attachments.
He is certified to operate them, and he is a registered waste carrier — so the spoil leaves your site legally, with the paperwork.
Asked often
Groundworks, answered
If yours is not here, ring and ask it.
Do you dig the footings as well as lay the bricks?
Yes — that is the point of doing both. The dig, the concrete, the damp course and the wall off it are one job rather than two trades blaming each other about levels.
Can you take the spoil away?
Yes. He is a registered waste carrier, so what comes out of the hole leaves the site legally and you get the paperwork.
What plant have you got?
A 360 excavator with attachments, a telehandler and a dumper, and he is certified to operate them. No waiting on a hire company turning up with an operator who has never seen the job.
Do you do drainage?
Yes — foul and surface water, soakaways, connections and the testing. On a building job it is normally part of the groundworks package.
